Ballari

The city of Ballari has seen a long list of rulers that include the Mauryas, the Satavahanas, the Pallavas, the Kadambas, the Badami Chalukyas, the Rashtrakutas, the Kalyani Chalukyans, the Southern Kalachuryas, the Sevuna Yadavas, the Hoysalas, and last but not the least – the Cholas. Ballari is famous for its fort known as the Ballari or Bellary fort which was built by Hanumappa Nayaka and later captured by Hyder Ali. . It is further believed that a tunnel from the fort links to cities like Mysore and Srirangapatnam. The major attraction here is that the fort is built on a monolithic rock.
