Agumbe

Agumbe, known as the Cherapunji of the South is a small village in the Shimoga district of Karnataka and is famous for its travel and tourism. The village has a mixed variety of medicinal plants rare in nature such as Eugenia, Ficus, Garcinia, Hoiligarna, and Myristica. Therefore it has been known as “Hasiru Honnu” meaning green gold. The village receives ample amount of rainfall and is considered to receive the heaviest rainfall throughout South India. The only Rainforest Research Centre is in Agumbe. Malgudi Days was shot in Agumbe. Due to the heavy rainfall in the region, it is advisable not to visit Agumbe during the monsoon period.
