Along the Western Ghats, 130 km away from Mangaluru is this small town, Kollur. The Mookambiga temple is one famous temple in Kollur and is dedicated to the Goddess of emotional power and strength, Mookambiga. The roofs of the temple are made out of copper while the crest is gold plated. In order to perform penance, a great philosopher Adi Shankaracharya visited the shrine. The goddess here is represented as a mix of both Shiva and Shakthi. The reason why the temple is dedicated to Goddess Mookambiga is that she is said to have appeared before Adi Shankaracharya.
