Shravanabelagola

Shravanabelagola, also known as the Land of Lord Gomatheeswara is located in the Hassan district of Karnataka. The temple is a major centre for the Jains in India. Millions of Jain devotees visit the temple annually. The Gomatheeswara statue in Sharavanabelagola is the largest monolithic statue in Asia and stands 57 feet tall. The Lord stands for peace and ahimsa, meaning non-violence. Jains from all over the world gather here every twelve years for the Mahamastakabhisekha where they perform an abhisekham for the Lord with several litres of milk, curd, saffron, ghee, and coins. The last Mahamastakabhisekha was held in 2018.
